James Agency is a creative agency based in Sydney, specializing in marketing and property development. Originally established in 2005 as edwardjames, the agency rebranded in 2019 to James Agency, reflecting a shift in their working style and client offerings. Under the leadership of James Dykes, who brings over 25 years of experience in the property and creative sector, the agency continues to deliver creative solutions to property and marketing clients across Sydney.
This was not a typical growth story. James Agency had something most businesses would consider a huge advantage, an exact match domain at james.agency. On paper, this should have made ranking for their own brand name effortless.
Instead, the opposite was happening. The website was not ranking for the search term "James Agency" at all. It was not just ranking poorly, it was missing entirely from the top 100 results for brand related searches, despite being indexed by search engines. For a creative agency trying to win new property and marketing clients, this meant that someone searching for the business by name could not find them, a serious and unusual problem.
Two root causes were identified. First, the ".agency" domain extension itself was confusing Google's systems, making it difficult for search engines to correctly determine what the actual business name was. Second, the schema markup already in place, built through the Yoast SEO plugin, was structured in a way that was actively working against the site rather than helping it.
Since the organic foundation was already decent, I did not need to start over. I needed to sharpen what was working and fix what was quietly costing them customers.
I moved the site from Yoast SEO to Rank Math, giving me far more precise control over on page SEO settings and unlocking more advanced schema and keyword optimization features.
I manually built custom schema markup across the website, clearly and accurately representing the business entity, its services, and its local information. This schema explicitly defined "James Agency" as the business name, directly addressing the confusion caused by the unusual domain extension.
I built high quality citations across authoritative websites, consistently using "James Agency" as the business name in every listing. This reinforced the correct brand name across the web and strengthened the site's credibility in the eyes of search engines.
I restructured internal links using brand specific anchor text, and rewrote meta titles and descriptions to clearly and prominently feature "James Agency," giving search engines a consistent, unmistakable signal of the brand's real name.

Before
Not ranking in Top 100 for "James Agency”
After
Ranked #1 for the exact brand name
client searching for James Agency by name after hearing about them through a referral or a past project, being unable to find them online created doubt about a business that had over 20 years of real experience behind it. Now, that same search leads straight to the agency's own website and Google Business Profile, right where it should.
This fix removed a hidden barrier that had likely been costing them client inquiries for years. A well known name in Sydney's property and marketing space is now properly represented online, matching the reputation James Dykes has built over two decades.
This case study is a reminder that even a strong, exact match domain is not enough on its own. Technical issues like TLD confusion and poorly structured schema can quietly erase a business from its own brand searches, no matter how established that business is offline. By diagnosing the real cause and fixing it at the technical level, I helped James Agency finally show up where it always should have, at the top of the results for its own name.
