Multiple Bay Area coin search terms now rank in the top three
Mountain View US and Foreign Coins specializes in buying, selling, and appraising rare and collectible coins in the San Francisco Bay Area, a market of roughly 7.5 million people. Coin collecting is a niche but passionate space, and buyers and sellers in this market tend to research carefully before trusting anyone with a valuable or inherited collection.
Before working with me, Mountain View US and Foreign Coins was competing in a market where one name kept showing up first, San Jose Coin Shop. This competitor had a strong hold on the exact keywords that mattered most, terms like "coin shop," "coin dealer," and "coin shop near me." For a business trying to earn trust in a specialty market like rare coins, being invisible for these searches meant losing customers to a competitor before ever getting the chance to make a case for themselves.
There was no dedicated website built to compete on these terms, no local content targeting the surrounding cities, and no real presence beyond the core business. The goal was clear from the start, not just to be found, but to become the name people trust in the Bay Area coin market ahead of the competitor who had owned that space for years.
Since the organic foundation was already decent, I did not need to start over. I needed to sharpen what was working and fix what was quietly costing them customers.
I built a brand new website from the ground up, designed to be fast, mobile friendly, and easy to navigate, with an SEO friendly structure from day one. A niche business like this needed a site that felt credible the moment a visitor landed on it, since trust is everything when someone is deciding who gets to appraise a valuable coin collection.
I researched the exact terms buyers and sellers use, including "coin shop," "coin dealer," and "coin shop near me," and built those terms naturally into the site. Location specific phrases like "coin dealer near me" and "coin shop San Jose" were used to directly target the Bay Area audience already searching for these services.
Rather than relying on one general page, I built dedicated pages for major cities across the region, including San Francisco, San Jose, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Oakland, and Fremont. As the strategy grew, I added sub area pages for South San Jose and West San Jose, capturing even more specific local searches within larger cities.
I built out a blog covering topics buyers and sellers actually search for, including coin grading, inherited coins, and foreign coins, positioning the business as a real authority rather than just another local shop. I also created specialty pages like "What We Buy," focused on categories such as foreign coins, inherited coins, and silverware.
Every page was optimized with quality content, meta tags, image alt text, and internal linking, alongside technical improvements like site speed, mobile friendliness, and schema markup to meet search engine standards.
I built citations on high authority platforms like Yelp, Medium, and Quora to strengthen domain authority, and created active profiles on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. I maintained a consistent posting schedule of two posts per week on Instagram and Facebook, and published thought leadership content on Medium, Quora, and LinkedIn to drive additional traffic and build brand credibility.

This shift means real buyers and sellers finding them across San Francisco, San Jose, and the surrounding cities, not just from one location but from an entire region now covered by dedicated, locally optimized pages. More impressions, more clicks, and a growing footprint on mobile all point to steady, compounding growth in a market that used to belong almost entirely to a single competitor.
Collectors and families looking to buy, sell, or appraise valuable coin collections can now easily find a trusted local expert through search, making it simpler to connect with experienced professionals before considering competing businesses.
By building a brand new SEO focused website, targeting the exact local searches that mattered, and backing it all with consistent content and citations, Mountain View US and Foreign Coins moved from a business overshadowed by a dominant competitor to a growing authority across the Bay Area coin market. This case study shows what a full local SEO overhaul can do when every part of the strategy, from the website itself to social media and citations, works together toward the same goal.
